Del. Tawanna P. Gaines (D-Prince George's County) announced today that her scholarship committee completed its selection process last week. Twenty-three applicants will receive funds to assist them with higher education costs. The applicants range from seniors in high school to graduate students attending colleges or universities within Maryland. Students attending out of state institutions qualify for the scholarship with unique majors.

Special note is made of Christopher Schwartz, a senior at DeMatha High School, who received this year's Outstanding Leadership Award. This award is in addition to the Delegate Scholarship award. Mr. Christopher Schwartz will enter the University of Maryland College Park as a freshman during the 2002-2003 academic year.

Delegate Gaines wishes luck in the coming academic year to all of the recipients and would like to express her appreciation to the scholarship committee for their time and assistance in the selection and award process.
