Public Works Report for March 2002 |
|
Free to a Good Home Untreated mulch is now available free to Riverdale Park residents. The mulch is located at the circle at the end of Queensbury Road by the Riverdale Park Public Works building. Help yourself to as much as you can use. Smartleaf is also available from the City of College Park for a fee. Call 301-474-3033 for more information.
Leaves Leaf season ended on December 31, 2001. All leaves must now be bagged or in a suitable container for collection. Bagged leaves will be collected as yard waste. Please do not mix trash and yard waste together. Yard waste is leaves, weeds, grass cuttings, and anything biodegradable from your yard.
Tree Limbs We will pick up tree limbs that are up to 6 inches diameter and up to 5 feet long. The landfill will no longer accept these items. We have found a vendor who will take the limbs for half the price of the landfill and will then compost them. This allows the town to save money and recycle at the same time.
Christmas Trees The first year of Christmas tree recycling was a great success. We contributed 142 Christmas trees to the Anacostia Watershed Society Program to rebuild the banks of the streams.
Recycle-Recycle-Recycle The county charges a fee for your recycling whether you recycle or not. So please join the program. The more the residents get out of the waste stream and into recycling, the more money residents save.
Recycling Buckets Recycling buckets replacements can be obtained free from Prince George's County Office of Recycling at 301-952-7630.
Spring Clean-Up Day Riverdale Park's Spring Clean-up day will be May 20, 2002. More details will appear in the May issue of the Town Crier.
