Ward 5 Report |

by Gerard F. Kiernan
What's music to you may be noise to me and vice-versa! Those of us in
Ward 5 (Park Tanglewood and Riverdale Towers) come from many
different backgrounds and cultures. For many of us, it is the first time
living in an apartment house. This closeness requires us to show consideration and courtesy for one another. An easy way to do this is to keep any sounds we make inside our apartments. I don't play my music loud enough for my neighbors to hear it and I don't want to hear theirs, whether live or recorded. Many of our neighbors work different shifts than we do. They may be trying to sleep, while we are trying to achieve new decibel levels with our stereos. As we enter the beautiful weeks of Fall, we turn off air conditioners and open windows. Let's not force the whole neighborhood to listen to us. The town's noise ordinance requires us to keep our sounds within the four walls, floor, and ceiling of our apartments. As the old saying goes, treat others the way that you wish to be treated. Gerard Kiernan is the Councilmember for Ward 5.
