All candidates in the May 3 election were invited to offer comments to residents for publication on this page. Following are the responses received:

Mayor

I offer sincere appreciation to the residents who cast their votes for me on May 3. I will work to my best ability to fulfill the faith you have expressed in me as your Mayor and to make our town a proud and safe place to live for all residents.

- Ann M. Ferguson, Mayor

Ward One

Thank you for once again re-electing me as the ward 1 representative to the Town Council. As always, should you need to reach me, please call me at 301-927-8993. Once again, thank you for your strong vote of confidence as we move our community into the 21st century with renewed hope and promise.

- Michael Herman, Ward 1 Councilmember

Ward Two

I appreciate and thank those who supported me in my re-election. As I have pledged in the past, I am always available. A call to the town office or my home will always be returned. I am a firm believer in "communication" (I can never say that too often). Please call me anytime, about anything, just so we communicate.

- Mary Donaldson, Ward 2 Councilmember

Ward Three

I want to sincerely thank each of you for the support and encouragement you offered during this last election. It was quite an honor for me to be received so warmly into your homes and hearts, and I thank you.

- Christy Davila, Oglethorpe Street

Thanks for welcoming me with an open door and an open mind. My 9-vote loss proves every vote

counts. Since only 1/3 of the voters supported the 3-way race winner, I'll continue to champion my platform. You can count on me to run again for one office or another in 2001!

- Novella Sargusingh, Taylor Road

I wish to take this opportunity to thank those who voted for me on May 3rd as well as all the residents who voted. I shall be available to all of you when needed--phone 301-864-3545.

- Guy Tiberio - Ward 3 Councilmember elect

Ward Four

I love Riverdale Park! Again I am honored to serve. Thanks to all who have supported me, but especially to my family, who tolerate all that this job requires. I also applaud those in Ward 4 who give of their time, and I invite others to join them. There is so much to do . . .

- Chris Davis, Ward 4 Councilmember

Ward Five

Thank you for a wonderful and educational eight years. Being a councilmember allowed me to learn and do many new things. I am happy to have helped with the 1992 redistricting, the master plan update, the new police building, the TDOZ plan, the 75th Anniversary history book, early work on Census 2000 and various legislation--farewell.

- Gerard F. Kiernan, Ward 5 Councilmember

Ward Six

I extend my sincere thanks for your vote of confidence again electing me to represent Ward 6. I thank God for an understanding husband, loving children, and constituents who have faith in me despite negative campaigning. I will be there to represent your concerns and together we will make Riverdale Park a better place to live. Mucho Gracias.

- Patricia Romero, Ward 6 Councilmember
