Ceremony at Veterans Monument |
|
In May 2001, the right pedestal of the Veterans Monument at Town Center was dedicated as the final step in the presentation of this monument. The words inscribed on the pedestal are "Freedom Is Not Free--It Requires Eternal Vigilance". As we recognize Veterans Day this year, those words and the sacrifices made by members of the military make a poignant statement to us all. Since September 11 we have watched our nation and its people unite to preserve the freedom so hard won in the wars of the past. We have watched men and women in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard leave their families to respond to the call of our country. It was not easy for those in the past to respond to this call, and it is not easy for those of today. To ensure the freedom we so often take for granted, they have responded, and will continue the job. On Sunday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m., the veterans of our military forces will be recognized at Town Center. We invite all to come to join in this important observance.
