Following is a summary of council actions taken at the June 4 regular legislative session and June 11, 14, and 18 special legislative sessions. Absences, abstentions, and opposing votes are noted.

Regular Legislative Session June 4, 2001

1. Approved closure of Rhode Island Avenue from Queens-bury to Riverdale Roads (Ward 4) from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, for the arts festival; adopted 6-0.

2. Appointed council committee chairs (see Council Committee Chairs in the Mayor's Report for July 2001); adopted 6-0.

3. Appointed Christina Davis as Vice Mayor; adopted 6-0.

4. Appointed Timothy Maloney, Esq., as interim town counsel; adopted 6-0.

5. Appointed Frank Randall as Traffic Study Committee chair; adopted 6-0.

6. Tabled Resolution 2001-OR-1, Town Crier guidelines, until July meeting.

Special Legislative Session June 11, 2001

1. Adoption of basic tax rate (42 cents per $100 of assessed value based on a 100% tax valuation) and special assessments (total 20 cents of assessed value based on a 100% tax valuation) for FY2001-2002; adopted 6-0.

2. Adoption of Resolution 2001-OR-2 as an emergency ordinance to increase business license fee to index for inflation and increased administrative costs; adopted 6-0 (see Summary Of Adopted Ordinances for July 2001).

3. Adoption of Resolution 2001-OR-3 as an emergency ordinance to increase parking fines to index for inflation and increased administrative costs; adopted 6-0 (see Summary Of Adopted Ordinances for July 2001).

4. Introduction of Resolution 2001-OR-4 to increase apartment license fee to index for inflation and increased administrative costs.

5. Appointed Vice-Mayor Christina Davis to fill vacancy on Board of Trustees in the town pension plan; adopted 6-0.

Special Legislative Session
June 14, 2001

(CMs Scott and Almirez absent)

1. Approved up to $2,000 contract to NZI Construction to replace driveway aprons at 5307 and 5311 Powhatan Street (Ward 6); adopted 3-0-1 (CM Blaschke abstained).

2. Approved amended Resolution 2001-OR-4 to increase apartment license fee to index for inflation and increased administrative costs; adopted 4-0 (see Summary Of Adopted Ordinances for July 2001).

Special Legislative Session June 18, 2001 (CM Almirez left before any votes taken)

1. Adoption of FY 2001-2002 budget; adopted 5-0.

2. Approved resolution to give apartment owners until September 1, 2001, to pay apartment license fee due to increase of $25 per unit per year cost; adopted 5-0.
